Prince tour injury update: My mate got back from the hospital, he has a facture in his ankle after getting shoved over last night....think he's more gutted that he's not likely to make it to any more shows now!

Post that on twitter. Seriously guys unless we as a fanbase speak up, the same thing will happen again, we all want to see some great gigs, just without this badly organised bullshit.

I agree maybe also contact Electric Ballroom to let them know so they get more people for crowd control.

Why would they let the security people eat into their profit margin?

The people will come anyway, they saw the queue!

Do we know the split for the ~10K (a tenner for ~1000 people) pounds between the house and P?

It's a very low ticket fee anyway....

Do not expect too much for that.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Call me an old sceptic, but he could go stand naked on the roof of Paisley Park and scream anout how out of order the whole thing is and it'll make zero difference. There could have been bodies up and down Camden High Street last night, but Prince and his management still won't change a thing

/

Having said that, I have convinced my mate to drop some folks a line about it...starting with the Electric Ballroom!!

With it being a club type venue small capacity, from experience dont charge alot, if anything if X amount of numbers are gaurenteed, The venue makes their money on the bar, probabaly made 5-10 times more than prince will have made out of it on that alone.

  • In regards to “queue jumping”, I don’t think it is black and white.
  • I’ve been going to Prince Gigs since 1986, and for all the non standard shows (i.e., where you couldn’t pre book seats) there has always been fans letting in other fans be it overnight at Wembley Arena and Stadium, Hammersmith, hell, most after shows.
  • In all those years, I never did it myself, and I was peeved when others did. I always joined the back and got there early. But I understood why they did it. Not everyone could get there when I could.
  • Some people object from the moral high ground of “first come, first served”, and choose to ignore the fact that they were in the privileged position of either close proximity, or the flexibility of work. This, in effect, gives them an unfair advantage over may others.
  • They could claim, “tough shit, that’s my luck”. But equally, someone who has a friend in the queue could claim “tough shit, that’s my luck”. As the saying goes, you make your own luck.
  • To me, there is a difference in diehard fans looking after diehard fans, to some of the piss heads in the queue last night who had nothing better to do and let 10 friends in because they wanted to check out what Prince was like.
  • At the end of it all, I blame the planners. Amateur at best. There are easy ways to deal with first come first served fairly, or they could avoid it completely and worked out a typical fan based system.
  • But ask yourself this. If you were one of those further back in the queue and had received word that the back entrance to the ballroom (there is one) had opened early and you could run round and get in, would you have refused to use it, instead, asking security staff to inform those at the front?
  • If you had refused, even at the risk of missing out, then you are a better man or woman than me or, I'm guessing, the majority of the queue.
  • If you had run round, you are no different to anyone else making hay over an unfair opportunity.

Some excellent point. But regarding this one, I think there are a few in the thread here that would have insisted that the front people go first.

I don't think I'll say much more on the subject but now feel that I should apologise to the org for single handedly causing last nights chaos.

It's a really good point. I think what really hurts is watching someone completely disregard those in the queue and cut in. Whereas the hypothetical backdoor scenario is bascially the same as seeing the Celebs area at a gig - they haven't paid, didn't queue etc. but it doesn't feel the same as watching an individual push in front of you.

Gutted I'm out of town and missing all the fun... Would have been there last night for sure !!!

Back in London tomorrow night though, and over the weekend, so looking forward (fingers crossed) for more of the same. smile

Just hoping the fans are a bit more civilised than at the Indigo2... some of those nights were ruined by fans acting like needy children... hahaha

Prince/the venue can either fork out for more security upfront, or risk forking out much more later in the event that people are seriously hurt in a stampede or a brawl. Ok, I'm not sure if they would be liable for damages if that were to happen, I am sure that it would be terrible publicity for all concerned. If it means sticking a couple of quid on ticket prices, so be it.

Several of the shows on at the Royal Albert Hall over the next two weeks are in smaller rooms within the building, i.e. Elgar Room, so the main hall is available on the 17, 18, 23, 25 and 26 in addition to 10 February.

My personal views is that the RAH does not have the right vibe for this band.

They need a Koko, The Forum, Brixton Academy or Indigo2 as a venue.

Cheers,

Indi

In this kind of situation you expect that some poor bugger (in this case me!) will queue all afternoon and my mate who couldnt get out of work came later to join me and effectively jumped the queue. Its something that, to a degree, you have to accept. What I did object to was a couple of people ahead of me queuing and at least 10 of their mates coming in as 7pm drew nearer. That was taking the piss IMO.

They had too little security and they should have used more barriers. I saw 3 maybe 4 security guys outside and they couldn't control the idiots who were pushing. That was the big problem.

Wish I had hung around for the second show now though... sad

Whether it's this hypothetical backdoor, or the chance to get a random wristband that is handed out like at Wembley stadium, or even spotting a new checkout opening whilst you are tenth in line at a supermarket; I wonder how many here would take the opportunity at others expense.

It doesn't make it right of course, but I can understand someone taking it, particularly in the spur of the moment or when emotions run high.

Sorry NO that is plain wrong. 1 person or 10 it doesn't matter. You were not there and should have gone to the back. I had a friend in the queue too and I was at work unable to get out too! But I didn't go and push in risking someone else who had been their hours in the rain not getting it. Sorry mate but you suck!

Said it already but there are two ways to deal with this:

1. EASY ONE - raffle tickets or comp slips (the venue seemed to learn for second gig of night). One per person, you aint in the queue you don't get in.

2. HARD ONE - reintroduce the NPGMC priority tickets for hardcore fans (obviously won't be able to do that for this "tour")

Ok apologies for this but just back home after a day on the road with work. Having spent hours waiting for the announcement and then being no where near Camden with no hope of getting there in time to get a ticket, I'm becoming a bit down hearted. So what is the latest - any more gigs announced or expected and is it a case of "more of the same" in which case I might as well give up and use the money set aside to go to Brazil instead!

Prince won't play any outside shows - i will be seriously surprised if he does. Don't forget one of the resons for cancelling the SOTT gigs at Wembley was due to the weather....and that was in June and it wasn't as bad as it is now!
